History of the Lodge and Cottages
The 400 acres occupied by Coolabine Ridge was once a valuable timber resource for South East Queensland. The Managers Cottage was the timber loggers original bungalow built in 1910. The owner of the property purchased it in the mid 1970's and has worked extensively to restore the cottage and its surrounds to its former glory clearing many hundreds of logged tree stumps and revegetating the forest. You can still see some of the huge old stumps, and even some of the old trees on the many walking trails throughout the property. In 2000 the concept of opening to the public was brought about by the sale of the family property in Caloundra which consisted of three cottages and the original Lighthouse keepers house from the hill in Caloundra ( See Opposite ). The cottages were built by the owners brother in the early 70's for use by the family while visiting their mother on weekends and Holidays. The buildings were brought up to Coolabine Ridge in 2004 and were restored with love to their original glory. Coolabine Ridge was opened in February 2009 as a sanctuary for busy people to escape the hustle and bustle of their busy lives, its a place where you can enjoy the quiet and emerse yourself in the sounds of nature. We look forward to meeting you here at the Ridge.
